Wax, spray or cream
Wax gives the heaviest protection and darkens leather. Sprays are invisible and light. Conditioning creams protect a little and feed a lot.
Applying wax properly
Warm the leather gently, apply a thin coat of wax with a cloth, work it into the welt and seams, then buff. Thick coats sit on the surface and do nothing.
Reproofing schedule
Reproof every four to six weeks during winter, or any time water stops beading on the toe.
Do not forget the sole edge
Most water enters at the join between the upper and the sole. That seam deserves as much wax as the panel above it.
