Understand the nap
Suede is leather sanded to raise a fine fibre surface. Anything that mats those fibres flat, including water and oil, changes how the shoe looks long before it damages it.
Dry cleaning first
Always start dry. A brass or crepe brush worked in one direction lifts dirt and stands the nap back up. Most light soiling never needs anything wetter.
Stains and water marks
For grease, cover the spot with cornstarch overnight and brush it out. For water rings, dampen the whole panel evenly with a sponge so the mark has no edge, then brush once dry.
Protection
A silicone-free suede protector spray reapplied every few months is the single best investment you can make in a suede shoe.
When to bring it to us
