When to Replace Heel Tips Before You Damage the Heel

A short, practical guide from the Queenievaro Co. workbench.

The clicking sound

That sharp click on tile is the nail or metal core of the heel hitting the ground. The plastic tip has already gone.

What is underneath

Under the tip is either a stacked leather block or a moulded plastic heel. Once the block starts wearing, replacement stops being a five-minute job.

Cost of waiting

A heel tip is one of the least expensive repairs there is. A rebuilt heel block can cost several times more, and on some shoes it is not possible at all.

Timing

Check your heels every couple of months. When less than about three millimetres of tip remains, bring the shoes in.

When to bring it to us

Maintenance you can do at home extends the life of good footwear, but structural wear needs a bench. If you are unsure which one you are looking at, call (720) 499-9302 or send photos and we will tell you honestly.
